They work in a variety of mediums for projects such as:
print, motion, web, signage and way finding, identities, spacial and more. Through experimentation, extensive international workshops, and their distinct “real-time design” practice, they actively learn and invest in new approaches to working, seeing, and communicating.
While i was in new york i went on a visit to this studio and met Jan Wilker. He sat down with us and told us about his journey from moving to new york to a small studio to work with a graphic designer as an apprentice to then owning his own studio. He has also written a book about this journey and about being real about the ups and downs of this process instead of sugar coating everything once he's got through to the other side of the success of owning his own studio that is now running well.
He explained that he started out as a graphic designer but his range of skills has broadened over the years due to demand from clients and the desire to make himself more universally workable with what the clients want, and so taught himself to use after effects and cinema 4d.
Another interesting part of my conversation with jan was when he was discussing the many internship requests he gets. He said that he is receives so many of the same emails that look like they have not had much thought put into about the studio specifically. And said that a lot of these email he received have probably just been copied and pasted to numerous different studios showing that they are obviously not too fussed what studio compels them. He said that when it comes to CV's and show reels the main thing that he thinks is important is desire to work with him and passion for the environment as opposed to the skill set they have specifically. A person who is motivated and interested with hunger to learn is more beneficial than some one with some good skills at the time of sending the show reel but lack motivation or desire, the people with less skills can be taught.
This was quite an inspiring chat and i recorded the conversation for my my own reference to what we discussed.

Skirl Records
since itss inception in 2007, we’ve been working with Skirl Records, a Brooklyn-based jazz label. Skirl holds a special place in our hearts since their album covers serve as our experimental playground where we try new design approaches. At the very beginning karlsonwilker established a Skirl-specific formatting that is applied to all releases: a DVD-sized Digipak® with a limited print area—the dimensions of a regular CD jewel case—in the center of the packaging, resulting in the now Skirl-typical white band on top and bottom.
